Sustainable development and public policies: un approach and political ecology

Abstract

This article is a comparative theoretical analysis of the United Nations (UN) approach to sustainable developmentand the approach to political ecology, to understand how public policies are perceived from the normative aspects of sustainable development. Both approaches found that the goal of sustainable development is inclusive and multidimensional development thatincorporates environmental concerns. In addition, the two approaches perceive public policies asthe instrument for achieving multidimensional, intersectoral and multilevel integration, as well as the alliance between various actors in socio-political life that allows more horizontal power relations, with the creation of spaces for citizen participation for the design, implementation and evaluation of effect public policies that contribute to achieving the goals of the 2030 agenda.
