Abstract

A study on the water quality was performed in the community El Descanso (Breñas Tres), which has a population of 140 members; agriculture is currently their main economic activity. The water supply is underground, providing agriculture with a potential risk of aquifer contamination by agrochemicals used. At the same time, is a latent danger for the population health, because people don´t know on the daily drinking water. On the other hand, the ONU has established access to water as a fundamental right of human beings in 2010; however, it isn´t enough to supply a lot water, but it also needs to be of good quality for the assurance of human health; for this reason, this study assessed the physiochemicals and bacteriological conditions of wells in this area; both organochlorinated and organophosphorous pesticides were analyzed. With this in mind, as of 2011, the government established as a mandatory requirement for every any the total arsenic analysis to make use of water; hence, this analysis was also included in this research. Eleven excavated wells and a drilled well were monitored. Analytical results indicate the obtention of good quality water compared to the physiochemicals parameters, pesticides and total arsenic for human consumption in according to the quality standards used; however, it is quality in terms of microbiological contamination indicators is not suitable for human consumption due to concentrations of Total Coliforms and Escherichia Coli  detected in the three monitored sources.ntroducción
