Epidemiological behavior of dental caries in children 2014-2019

Dental caries is the most widespread chronic disease in the world, more frequent in childhood, but affecting all ages throughout life. Therefore, the objective of this study was to establish the epidemiological behavior of dental caries in children of the Center for Integral Development of the Great Commission between 2014-2019. Quantitative descriptive study, the data from 2014-2019 of the dental care project, attended in the Social Projection projects of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Evangelical University of El Salvador, were evaluated. The results obtained were the following: the sex most affected by caries was male, the age with the highest ceo/d index was between 1 to 5 years. The ceo/d index in 2013 started with 4.51, having an increase for 2015 reaching 8.1, falling to 7.7 and then remaining between 6.83 and 6.64 in the following years. The O'Leary index for 2014 was 80%, rising in 2016 to 87%, then remaining between 79% and 76%. The promotion and education strategies for health in oral hygiene should include maneuvers in changes of attitudes and practices in hygiene habits of the population since the indices ceo/d, CPO/D, SIC and O'Leary's index remained high over 6 years intervention in the community under study. d, CPO/D, SIC and O'Leary's index remained high throughout 6 years of intervention in the community under study
