The objective describes the main clinical-epidemiological factors presented by prisoners affected by COVID-19, a special group of patients hospitalized in overcrowded conditions with little understanding for the application of basic measures of social distancing or use of respiratory protection due to their psychiatric involvement who also suffer from several medical comorbidities. The study is descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional with non-probabilistic sampling. A population of 117 patients with 64 infected, 100% of the population of inmates admitted to the psychiatric ward of the
National Psychiatric Hospital. Transmission of the disease in susceptible people was completed in 17 days. The severity of covid in inmates was 58% asymptomatic and 42% mild to moderate, with three priority symptoms: fever 34%, sore throat 17% and cough 13%. Among the clinical factors with mild to moderate severity were detected: male 39%, from 20 to 49 years old 22%, with comorbidities of heart disease 3%, kidney disease and epilepsy 3%, with psychiatric condition of schizophrenia, schizotypal disorder and delusional disorders F20-F29 (14 inmates) with predominant psychopharmacological treatment of risperidone (17), valproic acid (13) and biperiden (11), under a score expectant (24 cases), with a blood typing O Rh+ of 54% of the inmates as a protective factor; who received treatment for covid mainly with Hydroxychloroquine (8 cases), acetaminophen (19 cases). The clinical and epidemiological factors with evolution of severity from mild to moderate presented a single risk factor, with an expectant score, laboratory tests with predominance of leukopenia, neutrophilia, lymphopenia, eosinophilia, monocytosis, thrombocytopenia and prot. Elevated reactive C, only two cases presented parahilar and basal inflammatory infiltrates suggestive of a pneumonic process, demonstrating statistically significant values with blood typing B Rh (+) that makes it more prone to infection and with valproic acid treatment related to the less serious clinical evolution of infected inmates.
