Nutritional status and cardiovascular risk in university administrative staff of the university Dr. José Matías Delgado

The prevalence of obesity, cardiovascular risk and metabolic syndrome, grows alarmingly and causes deterioration in the quality of life of the adult population, therefore, it is important to detect and intervene early on these risk factors. The objective is to evaluate the nutritional status and cardiovascular risk in university administrative staff, for this, a descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out, with anthropometric evaluation and fasting blood glucose, performed in 257 administrative workers during the cycle 2-2015. Interviews were carried out with a check-in sheet, prior signature of informed consent the PAHO cardiovascular risk calculator was used, capillary glycemia was taken for people over 40 years of age and the risk of metabolic syndrome was calculated according to the criteria of the Latin American Diabetes Association. The data was processed in the SPSS program version 22 for Windows. Mild obesity was obtained in 26.1%, average obesity 3.9% and morbid obesity 1.6%. Cardiovascular risk factor increased by 41.6%, moderate risk 26%, severe and very severe risk by 5.5%. The majority of the administrative staff of the Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado does not perform daily physical activity, they are overweight or obese, predominantly male, and more than half of the people over 40 have capillary glycemia ≥ 100 mg / dl. almost 10% meet criteria for metabolic syndrome. All participants received information on nutritional and cardiovascular risk and referred 188 participants to the institutional clinic.
