Prevalence of periodontopathies in dental clinics of the Evangelical University of El Salvador 2017

Periodontopathyes (gingivitis and periodontitis) are a public health problem due to its prevalence, their impact in life quality and high costs that implies their treatment.
Their main factors and indicators are shared with not transmissible chronic diseases, contributing to the exacerbation and/or development of these ones.
The objective of this investigation was to establish the prevalence of periodontopathyes in persons from 18 to 60 years old that consulted in the Faculty of Odontology of the Evangelic University of El Salvador in 2017.
It was made a quantity, descriptive and transverse study of 289 expedients selected by simply random sampling. Among the preeminent results excels: Prevalence of periodontopathyes (100%), female sex 69.20%, periodontitis 55.36 and the age group of 18 – 31 years old 40.83%, unemployed 30.45%, middle scholarship 33.22%; deficient buccal hygiene 71.97%.
The prevalence of periodontopathyes was high in the population, mainly in women from 18-31 years old, unemployed, with medium scholarship, from urban area and deficient buccal hygiene.
Identifying and tackling more relevant factors, it could prevent its development, whereby it must strength the theory and practice of the odontology profession to be apply in teaching, assistance and investigation; such as formation and training of human resources in odontology, standardize the process of diagnostic and case definition, to impulse campaigns of education and motivation, management of alliances of education, promotion and treatment, strengthening of the programs and measures in public health, to do qualitative investigation, following and considering other indicators, in this way to pass from the knowledge to the implementation of preventive measures.
