On the 50th anniversary of UPOLI, Sergio Denis García makes a brief overview of the career of this University. He tells us that UPOLI was the first evangelical Christian university in our country and the second at the Central American level. This was an educational project conceived and dreamed by the Baptist Convention of Nicaragua (CBN). At the beginning, UPOLI (1967) created and operated as Polytechnic Institute of Nicaragua, the POLI. Subsequently, through Legislative Decree, obtained rank of University, and throughout its 50 years of existence, has been operating by its own conviction and state designation, as a public service university, in other words, a non-profit making institution.
Some experts recognized it as a university with a special vocation to serve the needs of the Nicaraguan youth sectors from the emerging social economic classes (lower and middle classes). Its motto “Serving the community”, has led it to be one of the institutions of higher education with a clear vocation of service.
