Abstract

Federico Mayor Zaragoza offers the main features that characterize the current global crisis determined - among other factors- by the replacement of the UN and plutocratic groups of countries in place of international organizations, the global impact and hegemony of neoliberalism. The author outlines the major challenges and more importantly, his contribution of possible solutions, which include: a new UN system, a Security Council more democratic and new functions: nuclear disarmament, new strategies, new arguments, coordination to reduce the impact of natural disasters, arbitration and conflict resolution skills, prevalence of human rights and peaceful coexistence, a new Environmental Council and ECOSOC.
