Abstract

Based on Decree No. 808 of the year 2012 of the National Assembly, which recognizes the quality of national heroes to the archers of the indigenous community of Matagalpa by their participation in the Battle of San Jacinto (September 14, 1856). This article recalls that process highlighting the reasons for the participation of the indigenous people of Matagalpa, in the National War (1855-1857) and in the Insurrection of 1881, as expressions, both of a customary system of this indigenous people in the military fi eld, as their claim to the injustices and dispossession suffered in that context. It rescues from oblivion and discrimination to many natives who participated in those days.
