Abstract

Education is of utmost importance for the competitive development of a country, particularly at the Higher Education level, since the insertion of professionals in economic and social life depends on it. Likewise, this formative stage is an ideal field for the generation of knowledge, through scientific research and technology transfer.

The competitiveness of a nation implies articulating efforts between the different actors in society, such as the business sector, academia and the State. The cluster model is a means for the materialization of said articulation, understood as a conglomerate of institutions in a territory, which interact with each other to generate productivity in the participants and in society.

The purpose of this study was to describe the configuration of the Higher Education cluster in El Salvador, using the tools of the competitiveness diamond, the value chain and the cluster map, as well as the analysis of indicators of the global competitiveness index. The results show the constitution, as well as its development and incidence in the Salvadoran nation.
