Abstract

The purpose of this text is to present a bibliographic review of the evolution of the concept of innovation in the last 50 years, understanding that organizations as such must respond and evolve to the changes that the environment presents. Innovation is a determining factor of growth to promote possible sources of competitive advantages, both at the macroeconomic and microeconomic levels of a given country. Over the years, the role of innovation in all industries, companies, regions and nations has been fundamental to achieve high levels of competitiveness and there by generate growth and development processes.
