Agroecological production: good practices and challenges for the Local and social development of Nicaragua

Abstract

Since the 1980s, agroecological practices in Nicaragua have become a production model that has gradually been adopted and implemented, individually or associatively, by productive agents in the country. These practices seek to contribute to the solution of problems still present in important areas of agricultural production. It is a model that, in its essence, is focused on generating changes in traditional agricultural production practices in order to achieve substantive contributions to local development. In this review text, a bibliographical review of agroecological practices in Nicaragua is presented. It is an exploration that describes the emergence, formalization, relevance and linkage with other agroecological strategies and challenges in the country. The results obtained from this research have allowed us to reflect on the importance of these alternative production methods and their contribution to local and social development in different areas of the national territory. In summary, this work shows the importance of alternative production methods and how these processes encourage reflection in the search for solutions to the damage caused in the different ecosystems by practices contrary to the existing realities in each production zone.
