Types of Articles Published

Portal de la Ciencia Journal accepts the following types of articles for publication, all subject to a rigorous peer-review process:

Original Research Articles

Papers presenting unpublished results of scientific research in biology, physics, mathematics, microbiology, and related fields. These articles must demonstrate a high degree of originality and make a significant contribution to advancing knowledge in their respective areas.

Review Articles

Studies that synthesize and critically analyze the current state of knowledge on a specific topic. These articles should provide an overview of recent research, identify trends, and highlight possible future directions within the journal's fields of interest.

Scientific Notes

Brief reports of preliminary results or scientific discoveries that, although not constituting a complete study, are of interest and relevance to the scientific community. These notes must be concise while maintaining sufficient methodological rigor.

Technical Articles

Manuscripts presenting technical developments or methodological innovations applicable to scientific research in the fields covered by the journal. These articles should demonstrate how the described tools or techniques improve research or analytical processes.

Book and Conference Reviews

Critical reviews or summaries of recent academic books or relevant scientific conferences in biology, physics, mathematics, and microbiology. These reviews should provide a critical assessment of the work or event and highlight its impact on the scientific community.

Each article type aims to contribute to the exchange of knowledge among researchers and academics, fostering the continued development of the natural and exact sciences.

Originality

Manuscripts submitted to Portal de la Ciencia Journal must be original works that have not been previously published nor simultaneously submitted to other scientific journals. During the peer-review process, authors agree not to submit their manuscripts elsewhere until a final decision has been received from the journal.

Editorial, Review, and Acceptance Process

The acceptance of manuscripts is based on criteria of scientific quality, originality, and relevance to the journal's audience. All manuscripts undergo an external double-blind peer-review process coordinated by the Editor-in-Chief or the journal editor. Articles must be written clearly, concisely, and directly, ensuring that they are understandable to the journal's readership. Scientific contributions are evaluated primarily on their merit and content.

Preliminary Evaluation of the Manuscript

Before peer review, manuscripts are evaluated based on:

  • Adherence to the journal's aims and scope.
  • Compliance with the style guidelines established in the author instructions. Failure to comply will result in the manuscript being returned to the corresponding author, causing delays in the editorial process.
  • Scientific merit.

If these requirements are met, the manuscript proceeds to peer review.

Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts are screened using TURNITIN© plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts with a similarity index greater than 20% will be rejected, although authors may submit a revised version after editing the text. The similarity report excludes direct quotations, author names, and the bibliography section.

Peer Review

Manuscripts meeting the above criteria are sent to at least two expert reviewers external to the institution. Based on an evaluation rubric, reviewers may issue one of the following recommendations:

  • Acceptance with minor revisions.
  • Acceptance with major revisions.
  • Rejection with the possibility of resubmission after revisions.
  • Definitive rejection.

In cases of conflicting recommendations, the editor may submit the manuscript to a third reviewer or make the final decision directly.

Resubmission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts not initially accepted may be resubmitted for consideration, with a maximum of two resubmissions, provided that reviewer comments have been adequately addressed.

Updating Procedures

Any updates to editorial procedures will be discussed in consultation with the Editorial Board to ensure a rigorous and transparent editorial process.

This process guarantees the quality and rigor of publications and reflects the journal's commitment to disseminating original and relevant scientific knowledge.
