About the Journal

Población y Desarrollo - Argonautas y Caminantes (Population and Development - Argonauts and Walkers) is an open access academic journal created by the Master's Program in Demography and Development at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) in 2003. It publishes one volume annually in electronic and print format, depending on budget availability, and accepts contributions related to population studies, demography, development and related fields, from interdisciplinary perspectives of the social sciences.

The journal is aimed at researchers, professors, students, professionals and members of the public interested in the analysis of population dynamics and development processes in Honduras, Central America and the world. Its pages feature original articles, review articles, academic essays and book reviews that contribute to the scientific and critical understanding of the social, economic, territorial, cultural, environmental and demographic phenomena that affect the living condition of populations.

Articles are published in Spanish. However, depending on the University's budget availability, the Faculty of Humanities may support the translation of articles into English, as was the case in Volume 20.  The journal does not charge fees for submission, processing, review or publication of articles; its editorial costs are covered through public funds from the UNAH.

The journal uses the UNAH Scientific Journals Portal for editorial management and the publication of its content. It also promotes good editorial practices, open access to knowledge and academic review processes aimed at strengthening the scientific quality of its publications.

Incorporation of Artistic and Literary Works

The journal may feature works by national artists on its covers and on the opening pages of articles, as well as poems and other literary expressions related to the subjects addressed. These contributions seek to foster dialogue among scientific research, art, and social realities without altering the journal’s academic and scientific purpose.

Creators shall retain all moral and economic rights to their works. For publication purposes, they shall grant the journal a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce, publicly communicate, and preserve the works as part of the corresponding print or electronic edition. This licence does not entail the transfer of intellectual property rights, nor does it prevent rights holders from subsequently publishing or otherwise using their works.

The journal shall provide appropriate attribution and, where applicable, include the title of the work, year of creation, artistic medium, source, or title of the book or poetry collection from which it was taken. Nevertheless, inclusion shall serve exclusively editorial, cultural, and academic purposes. It shall therefore neither constitute a commercial relationship nor require the journal to include purchasing links, redirects, advertisements, or other promotional content.

Artistic and literary works do not form part of the scholarly content subject to peer review. Once an issue has been published, the licence shall remain in effect to ensure the integrity, preservation, accessibility, and dissemination of the issue through the journal’s archives and platforms.
