Abstract

The UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity of 2001 highlights the undeniable importance of traditional and ancestral knowledge, recognizing it as a valuable legacy not only for indigenous and Afro-descendant communities but for all humanity. This knowledge enriches our mutual understanding and embodies a way of life rooted in the customs, traditions, and practices passed down by our ancestors, making them essential elements of our human identity.

In the context of this discussion, it is crucial to understand the significance of ancestral knowledge as a manifestation of a unique worldview, distinct from the Western perspective. Incorporating this knowledge into the educational sphere becomes imperative for a more complete and enriching understanding of the world around us. To advance this goal, a literature review and fieldwork were conducted, providing a multidimensional understanding of this knowledge, which encompasses a wide variety of topics, including agricultural practices, traditional medicine, mythology, and governance systems, among other aspects.

The effective integration of this knowledge into the educational curriculum requires the development of appropriate pedagogical strategies and specific training for teaching staff. This process will not only enrich the educational experience by fostering an appreciation of cultural diversity and intercultural respect but also open new perspectives on the world for students. Moreover, this interaction will ensure the authenticity and cultural relevance of educational content, promoting an environment of collaboration and mutual understanding in the classroom, thereby enriching the knowledge generation process in our contemporary societies.
