Abstract

The objective of the article is to analyze the sociodemographic characteristics of Paraguayan migrants living in the City of Buenos Aires; the composition of their homes, with special emphasis on the women role. To analyze its relative importance in the population of the city, population censuses carried out between 1855 and 2010 are used as a source of data. Sociodemographic characteristics are shown through the results of the 2016 Annual Household Survey of the General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of the Government of the City. Different indicators are considered to show their demographic structure, the composition of their homes, the socioeconomic characteristics of their bosses, paying attention to the role of women in households with complete conjugal centers. In 2016, the Paraguayan community residing in Buenos Aires represents 19% of the total number of foreigners in the city and 36% of the migrant population born in neighboring countries. It can be affirmed that this community had singular relevance in the demographic growth of Buenos Aires during this century and constitutes an important contribution in the economic activity of the same.
