Based on the information collected in the Demography and Health Survey carried out in Honduras during the 2011-2012 biennium, it was decided to study the characteristics of the immediate or next desired son in men. The objective is to describe the incidence of the immediate desired child by Honduran men, according to the waiting time declared for their birth, and sociodemographic and cultural factors. The methodology used
consisted in the design and construction of life tables for the immediate desired child (IDC) based on the question How much time would you like to wait from now until before the birth of a (other) child? with which it is possible to describe the intensity or incidence of IDC according to the waiting time for its birth and sociodemographic and cultural variables. We also used the Cox regression of proportional risks for invariant covariates over time, which allowed us to make comparisons through the Relative Risk, controlling the confounding variables and estimating the net effect of each predictor on the probability of a man having IDC. Of the 18 variables analyzed, only a few were included in the regressive model, and some results were paradoxical, such as the area of residence, usually an excellent differential of female fertility, which did not show statistical significance. On the other hand, the variable built Reproductive Gap was also a good predictor, also an appropriate summary factor, with explanatory capacity to replace other variables, which allowed to provide the model with a good amount of parsimony.
