Abstract

In recent years there have been alarming statistics of teen pregnancy, it is estimated that in Honduras 30% of births occur among women in ages from 13 to 19 years. At Intibucá department, from January to June 2010, a monthly average of 77 pregnant teens between the ages of 10-19 years have been attended. The teenage pregnancy is not only a health problem but it also has an impact on the social, emotional and economical areas. In the case of the municipalities of Intibucá socio-cultural factors that influence teenage pregnancy including men chauvinism, taboos about sexual education, overcrowding, lack of recreation and youth networks that allow socializing their concerns and strengthening of sexual education have been identified.
