Abstract

The tuberculin skin test or Mantoux method (TST) is a standard method to determine if a person is infected by the microbe Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The administration and reliable reading of this test requires procedures, training, supervision and standardized practices. 0.1ml (2UT) of a purified protein derivative of tuberculin (RT-23) is placed. The reaction to the skin test should be checked between 48 and 72 hours after administration. The reaction should be measured in millimeters of induration (palpable, raised, hardened or swollen area).
