Abstract

Background: Childhood obesity is a chronic disease of multifactorial origin considered one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century. The problem is global and is progressively affecting many low and middle income countries, especially in the urban environment. The prevalence has increased at an alarming rate. Objective: To know the factors associated with childhood obesity in patients treated at the outpatient clinic of Pediatric Endocrinology of the HMCR in the period of January 2017- June 2018. Patients and methods: Nonexperimental design, case-control study, ages between 2-17 years with 364 days of life, patients with obesity were recruited from the Outpatient Consultation of Pediatric Endocrinology, choosing the controls in a 1: 1 ratio of the Postgraduate Outpatient Consultation of Pediatrics. The data were analyzed with SPSS version 23. Results: The factors associated with obesity were female, having a family history of obesity, doing daily physical activity less than 30min, dedicating daily time to video games. Binary Logistic Regression the probability of developing childhood obesity increases significantly (P <0.05) if the individual is female, have a history of parents with obesity, if he did not receive SCI in the first 6 months, if you do daily physical activity less than 30 min and if you spend daily time playing video games. In addition, these results according to WALD statistics can be generalized to the population.
