Epidemiological Characteristics of the Suicide Attempt in Adolescents

Background: The WHO establishes the suicide attempt within the five causes of mortality between 15 and 19 years. Objective: To identify epidemiological characteristics of the suicide attempt in adolescents who attended the HMCR, period from June 2017 to May 2018. Patients and Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study, in patients from 12 years to 17 years 364 days that came with suicide attempt. Results: 82.4% (28) were women, the average: 15.4 years, fashion: 17 years and median: 15.5 years. 38.2% (13) lived with both parents; 14.7% (5) had a family history of suicide attempt, 26.5% (9) had a previous suicide attempt. The most used method was poisoning with 79.4% (27). 85.3% (29) of the events occurred in the home. 17.6% (6) used drugs; in the reason for the attempt, romantic difficulties predominated with 47.1% (16), followed by family problems with 44.1% (15). 5.9% (2) died. Conclusions: The risk factors found were: family history of suicide attempt, previous suicide attempt, use of alcohol and drugs. Poisoning predominated, and the main reason found in the study was romantic difficulties.
