An Infection Associated with Health Care (IAAS) is considered to be one that is not present or incubated at the time of admission, but which is observed 72 hours after the hospital stay or discharge of the patient. Objective: To determine the relationship between the characteristics of the host, the invasive procedures and the infections associated with health care in the nursery of the Dr. Mario Catarino Rivas National Hospital (HNMCR), during the period from January to December 2017. Patients and Methods: A retrospective, descriptive study of 300 infants from 1 month to 1 year 364 days who were admitted to the infant room of the HNMCR. The sample size was 45 patients. Results: The prevalence of Infections Associated with health care was 15%. 62.2% of the patients presented some associated base disease, being the most frequent malnutrition in 64.4%. Conclusions: Invasive procedures and associated base diseases are a risk factor for the development of an IAAS.
