Abstract

The etiologic agent of Chagas disease is a parasitic protozoan (trypanosoma cruzi) that causes acute and chronic infection in humans. The extent of the damage varies Congenital Chagas Disease: Case Report Enfermedad de Chagas Congénito: Presentación de caso clínico according to the parasitic strains and the individual characteristics of the host; It can cause disability and even death. Different routes of infection have been described: vectorial, transfusional, accidental, digestive, and congenital modality. The congenital modality of the infection depends on two basic indicators, the prevalence of chagasic pregnant women and the incidence of vertical transmission. The diagnosis presents a challenge in those parts of the country where, although the disease is considered endemic, compulsory screening in pregnant women is not currently carried out. It is important to know that treatment before the first year of life has an excellent response and avoids chronic sequelae that can be invalidating in adult stage.
