Local anesthetics have dramatically changed the history and practice of medicine, the evolution in anesthetic development methods has made possible the development of conventional anesthetics for common use in local medical and surgical procedures, speaking in particular of two anesthetics that are used daily at the different levels of global health care, we are talking about lidocaine and subsequently lidocaine with epinephrine, it is by the daily use of these anesthetics that it is now possi- ble to do minor procedures in patients without exposing them to the pain of the procedure itself or the cause of non-procedural pain. Each one is used according to the desired effect that is required in the patient, taking into account the various precautions given the potential toxicity that they possess, as well as the technique that is going to be used. That is why in this bibliographic review article that the generalities of both anesthetics are presented, the indications, the precautions, the adverse effects and comparison of toxicity between both anesthetics. This bibliographic review was made from 36 articles based in reference to the following: medical literature, journal articles and other bibliographic reviews under 5 years have been published or those with historical significance.
