Abstract

This paper offers an introduction to the different perspectives Salvadoran immigrants in the diaspora have about electoral participation in their home country and the role of the mass media in the transnational space. Specifically, this paper focuses on the construction of a transnational public sphere, new deterritorialized political practices and the information needs expressed by Salvadoran migrants who reside in the United States. This work was presented to the I Congreso Centroamericano de Ciencias Políticas, held in San Salvador in July, 2007.
