Assertive communication is an essential element for promoting healthy interpersonal relationships in the university context. This article reflects on the importance of continuously strengthening the bond between faculty and students at UNAN-Managua University during the second semester of 2025. Based on the above, the study focuses on strengthening assertive communication through teaching strategies based on empathy and respect, utilizing a Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) approach. The methodology was based on a challenge-based study, based on a problem diagnosed in the university context. Therefore, the study is a qualitative, descriptive study supported by documentary research that will allow us to identify, analyze, and describe the official guidelines, pedagogical orientations, and current policies that support the implementation of the competency-based approach and the expected communication practices. The sample consisted of one full-time teacher, two class schedules, and five students from the bachelor’s degree in Primary Education program. Data collection was conducted through interviews with students and teachers using a virtual strategy, using Google Forms. These instruments were previously validated through expert judgment, ensuring compliance and providing critical feedback that contributed to strengthening the proposed intervention. The results obtained through triangulation demonstrated the study's findings, highlighting the need to strengthen assertive practices among teachers and students by implementing strategies based on empathy and respect.
