Dress Syndrome in a pediatric patient asocciated to Phenobarbital. Case Report

Abstract

The DRESS síndrome (Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) represents a serious and potentially lethal disease that includes skin reaction, fever, hematological anomalies and involvement of various organs. Clinical case: A two-year-old male who uses Phenobarbital for complex febrile seizures, with history of fever, adenopathy, and skin eruption. The laboratory results showed eosinophilia and a rise in liver transaminases; imaging test reported hepatomegaly and bilateral nephromegaly. The patient had a successful recovery after retiring phenobarbital and therapy with steroids. Discussion: Because of it´s rare presentation, with a mortality rate up to 30% it is important to know the clinical relevance of this disease and it´s proper treatment.
