It is a fact that current democracies are experiencing a crisis of representation as consequence of the gradual discredit in which politics and performance have fallen of some politicians. This discredit has led, on the one hand, to the appearance of populist movements whose discourse tries to profit from discontent citizen and, on the other, the search for complementary forms of representation of the interests of the citizenry. At the same time, it has led to the several questions that require an answer. The first is related to paper of the State that, although it continues to be the protagonist of the public and power scene, is seriously compromised by movements such as globalization and its many faces. The second question is the role of citizenship in the process of democratic regeneration and as the protagonist of a form of participatory democracy that returns politics to the noble performance of managing the public. This article is a reflection on the questions raised.
