Abstract

The Social Economy in Honduras, despite showing some weaknesses in key variables related to its inner gear functioning, has an organizational and economic potential to promote an alternative approach to undertake a process of sustainable development. If continuing the current state of affairs, it may lead to a growing poverty stage. Therefore, there is a need to search for alternative approaches to promote a process of development in which relations and production forces intervene in a more equitable way, so there will be equilibrium with a most fair income distribution. This research shows that enterprises operating in the country are endowed to create networks of economic integration that allow shaping a process of endogenous economic development. The later will strengthen the in between layer that allows to, on the one hand, and exchange of a range of skills and strengths already developed by the grounded enterprises. And, on the other hand, it will allow to achieving a better positioning of the sector of the social economy as a key contributor to the national economy, and, therefore, an improvement of the standard of living of over two million people related either in a direct, or indirect way with it.
