These reflections stem from a doctoral research which was focused on the experience of (own) disappearance and survival of Clandestine Detention Centers (CCD) in Argentina (1975-1983). Considering that the production of disappearances followed by liberation supposed a specific, systematic and non-marginal mode of disappearance, in this paper I delve into the conceptualizations of Giorgio Agamben on the Nazi concentration camps and the problem of exception in order to reflect on its relevance and tensions in the study of Argentinian CCD´s survivors. Focusing on structure of exception and witness developments, I argue that if the idea of exception allows us to approach to disappearing power dynamics (that refer to joint and systematic production of both disappeared people and survivors), considerations on survivor as a “delegated witness” obliterate substantive aspects of the subject of survival.
