Abstract

This 2020 commemorates 46 years since Hurricane Fifi unleashed its fury in extensive urban and rural areas of Honduras, this natural phenomenon, caused the death of between 6000-10000 people , great losses in infrastructure and a stagnation of the national economy. The immediate consequences were overcome thanks to the support of the international community, private companies, volunteers, and government institutions that offered their strategic capacities in favor of the emergency and national reconstruction. The university brigades that were organized in 1974 by the National Autonomous University of Honduras are points of institutional growth, reflection, and assessment of the vulnerability of Honduras to natural phenomena in its recent history.
