Humanity with its consumption habits is increasing day by day the emission of waste, degrading the environment with its waste and with its demand for goods that are extracted from nature. Concern about the environmental impact of this excessive consumption is growing. In this sense, a survey was carried out among those attending a course on Vermiculture and composting on environmental aspects. Most of those surveyed recognize the importance of environmental education in reducing waste and consider that once they take ownership of the ideas of separating at source and immobilizing organics at home from composting, the knowledge is significant and remains in time. They consider the work carried out by cartoneros to be very valuable and positively value that the State supports their work. They assume that environmental education based on State programs could significantly change the way the population handles waste. More than 60% of those attending the course compost and separate recyclables, which between both actions reduces the shipment to landfills by between 80 and 90%. Among those who have experience in composting, the presence of odors due to mismanagement (excess water, lack of aeration) is recognized as the main problem.
