Strategic urban development plan for Trinidad, Santa Barbara (Honduras)

The Strategic Urban Development Plan (PDU) of Trinidad, Santa Bárbara (Honduras) is a university-society linking project prepared in 2022 by the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH). as part of the practical exercise of the planning and urban planning I and II subjects of the Architecture Degree that are taught in the 8th and 9th semesters respectively. To prepare the PDU, applied research was applied aligned with the teaching method based on project. The process included review and analysis activities of existing municipal and territorial management instruments, information gathering in the territory, participatory workshops with key actors of the municipality and inter-views with technical personnel and local authorities. The New Urban Agenda, as an operational instrument of the Sustainable Development Goal SDG-11 (Sustainable Cities), served as the basis for the methodological approach that was organized in 11 steps: compilation of information from secondary sources, design of the methodology, development of the research, information proces-sing, data analysis, urban diagnosis results, validation of diagnosis results, definition of scenarios and strategies, validation and prioritization of projects, development of the urban proposal and presentation of the final product. In a participatory process, with key actors from the city, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats were identified from the urban development approach. With the results of the diagnosis, 4 urban strategies were formulated and triggering projects were formulated that were validated by the population of the urban area of Trinidad. The set of products produced constitutes a territorial management tool that will contribute to streng-thening the capabilities of the municipality of Trinidad to promote the sustainable development of the city.
