Resilient active tourism: a theoretical-methodological approach to the valorization of local resources and adaptation to climate change in the middle-lower Tempisque River Basin, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Abstract

This article presents a theoretical-methodological approach for the development of active tourism in the middle-lower Tempisque River Basin, located in the province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It aims to utilize local natural and cultural resources to diversify the tourism offer and strengthen resilience to climate change. A methodological proposal is presented to foster linkages between academia and the community, to be developed in five phases aimed at promoting local capacities, sustainability, and the systematization of experiences, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. Furthermore, active tourism is recognized as a valuable tool for socioeconomic development and climate change adaptation.
