Abstract

The article pretends to establish the importance of drainage systems in a highway, which allow an adequate management of fluids, for which the processes of capture, conduction and evacuation of them are important.
The roads in El Salvador are subjected - during the rainy season - to the action of water more frequently; unfortunately, drainage works are often used as garbage dumps, generating silting.
There is the importance of verifying in which conditions the vaults of the RN-13 highway are currently located on El Portezuelo - Ahuachapán section, confirming their status and maintenance.
In the section stipulated nine vaults were found, of which seven of them are more than 70 years old; they were only extended when the road was worked.
In the inspection carried out it was verified that there is maintenance for them, but it is not routine, being necessary to raise awareness about the importance of the periodic inspection and maintenance of the drainage works to avoid the closure of the roads.
