Abstract

The western scientifi cism–materialistic tradition has radically changed the way we now conceive the production of scientifi c knowledge. This monistic conception, supported by methodologies and procedures exclusively focused on, the description of the “object”; mainly through the empirical experimentation and the quantifi cation of the information; has been indiscriminately expanded among all scientifi c fi elds; even on those, in which this way to proceed is unsuitable, such as the psychology.

This misconception has lead modern science to systematically treat the psychic essence of men as an object; and to a simplify point of view of the very much complex inside experience of the mind. This contemporary milestone is deeply related to the historical and ontological phenomenon of the splitted conscious, which founds its greater expression in the modern western culture. Now, more than ever, it is necessary to fi nd an appropriate balance within the modern science; in which social disciplines, especially psychology, are able to rediscover their own identity.
