Abstract

The ojushte (also known as bread nut or mayanut) is an ancestral tree cultivated by the mayas, which provides many benefitss for the nutrition of both human and different animal species. Among its most important characteristics we find that it is a perennial tree that can last up to three hundred years. It is resistant to both droughts and floods. It can also withstand winds of up to hundred and twenty kilometers per hour, becoming an alternative to combat the effeccts of climate chnazge. It also offers freat benefits for its Wood, which is used as building materials. It is a variety that in El Salvador must have greatter support for its propagation, due to the challenges faced in the water shedst fix oxygen and to contribute to the protection of the aquifiers.
