Morbidity and mortality of people with diabetes mellitus and ischemic cerebrovascular event, Hospital Nacional Rosales 2017

Background Diabetes mellitus and stroke are diseases linked to lifestyles and related to each other, important to public health and evidence-based medicine.
Purpose Describe the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, complications and mortality of patients who attends Hospital Nacional Rosales from 1 January of 2017 to 31 December 2017 with diagnoses of diabetes mellitus and ischemic stroke.
Methods The study is descriptive study. A review of files with diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and ischemic stroke applying descriptive statistics at the variables of study.
Results The age above 50 years old, history of arterial hypertension, high-density lipoproteins below the ranks of reference, mean arterial pressure outside the rank and outgoing diabetes mellitus for more than 10 years were the clinical characteristics of the patients with severe stroke and worst outcomes, including mortality.
Conclusions Diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular risk factors are related to a mayor morbimortality in patients who had suffered ischemic stroke.
