Oral health services in users of the Salvadoran Social Security Institute

The objective of this study is to describe the oral health services of the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS), during the period 2010-2014. Oral health considered as a fundamental human right, is an integral part of the general health of an individual. The present study is descriptive cross-sectional and retrospective; The units of analysis were the number of consultations registered by the statistical system of dental care, made to users. In relation to the results it was obtained that 75.7% of the attentions correspond to the general dentistry treatments, 24.2% to those of specialty. Odontological care is concentrated in the metropolitan area with 52.3%. The trend of dental care during the years under study was increasing keeping specialty care. Preventive care, showed a slight tendency to decrease. The Index of Lost Carious Lost Obturated teeth was 10.4 for the central zone, this figure is higher than the limit established by the World Health Organization of 3.
