Management of a complicated root-crown fracture a clinical case report

Abstract

Introduction. In dental practice, there are cases of root crown fractures, which represents a dilemma when choosing an approach for treatment, given that the coronal segment is almost always mobile and has enough tissue to retain itself. The root portion of the fracture is capable of supporting restoration, nevertheless, preparation is highly difficult since there is poor visibility and access is impossible. Objective. To implement the intentional surgical extrusion technique as an alternative treatment to tooth extraction, to keep the affected dental organ in the oral cavity for a longer period. Methodology. the clinical management of a 26-year-old male patient who comes to a dental consultation after suffering a traffic accident is presented. Conclusions. it is concluded that the intentional surgical extrusion technique is effective for fractured teeth that meet the selection criteria, since it allows the preservation of the dental organ and restores its functions.
