Abstract

The editorial team of LEGAL AND POLITICAL NOTEBOOK, encouraged by promoting the discussion in addition to the recognition and progressive effectiveness of the rights of groups in historically vulnerable situation in our societies, presents an interview with the Brazilian human rights activist of the lesbian, gay, trans, bisexual and intersex (LGTBI) community Caio Varela, in which he discusses the challenges and rights pending for this community after the adoption of the laws on equal marriage , gender identity and other affirmative measures that Latin American States have taken in recent years.

Author Biography

Caio Varela, MERCOSUR Institute for Public Policies on Human Rights

Caio Varela (born 1973) is a human rights activist from the LGBTI community. Degree in International Relations (2006) and master's degree in human rights and democratization (2015). He has been a member and militant of various Brazilian social human rights organizations. He is currently a consultant to the Mercosur Institute of Public Policies on Human Rights (IPPDH).
