The COVID-19 pandemic has forced an accelerated change in education systems, towards virtual and mixed modalities, which represent the most suitable alternative for educational continuity. This fact has revealed numerous and important limitations in educational-technological matters, and in the little preparation of developing countries to bet on virtual education entirely. This essay explores the importance of the teaching role, beyond the facilitation of knowledge, towards major and comprehensive challenges in terms of capacity, organization and comprehensiveness. This suggests an openness and adaptation of the educational methodology, technological tools and the educator’s time arrangement based on the social, economic and cultural conditions of each of the students. The aforementioned statement evidences the integral role of the teacher, in the face of the mixed modality paradigm of educational systems, which places the educator as a reference and support actor in the current context. The educator representing the main link in the university-student connection, which sets the standard for a curricular and methodological turn necessary to respond to the pandemic situation.
