This literary essay aims to analyze the principles of children’s and young adult literature in the development of reading formation, using the storybook El colibrí que quiso escribir una novela by Carlos Carrión. Through a detailed analysis, based on close reading and qualitative, descriptive, and comparative methodology, we examine how Carrión uses these principles to impart values and moral lessons to his readers. The common thread revolves around a hummingbird who aspires to write a novel, and during this process, significant themes such as creativity, effort and perseverance are addressed. Through the use of literary devices, such as metaphor and personification, the book manages to capture the attention of young readers and stimulate their imagination. In conclusion, the book complies with the principles of children’s and young adult literature, thanks to its accessible language and a captivating plot that resonates with its target audience.
