Academic expectations of Dominican Republic physical education teachers for doctoral training

The essay reflects on, questions, and analyzes the academic expectations of physical education teachers in the Dominican Republic regarding the Doctorate in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences. To support the arguments, an intentional consultation was conducted with five of the applicants to the training program. The text highlights the importance of continuing education at this level in order to respond to current educational demands. It also addresses the challenges faced by physical education teachers in the country’s public schools, aspects that affect the development of work practices and motivate teachers to continue their training. Academic expectations reveal a desire for professional advancement and better job opportunities. It concludes by recommending that the State expand doctoral programs for physical education teachers so that they can contribute to the academic and social development of the nation with new knowledge and scientific advances.
