The historical regions constitute organized spaces of geography in which the multiple social relations that overlap in their development, give them characteristics of structural totality and as such they must be approached by the historian who chooses them as an object of study. The regions tend to maintain a historical rhythm different from the nation as a whole and its development may suffer periods of inactivity and delay that even lead to its demise. Historians should consider in his studies the reasons from yesterday and today, in order to build knowledge of the historical region that contributes to promote the development of the region, for the benefit of the development of the nation, legitimizing the national, multiracial, and multiethnic Latin American cultural unity. This approach is demonstrated in practice with the study of Baracoa, the most Oriental region of Cuba.
