Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • El envío no ha sido publicado previamente ni se ha sometido a consideración por ninguna otra revista (o se ha proporcionado una explicación al respecto en los Comentarios al editor/a).
  • El archivo de envío está en formato OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF o WordPerfect.
  • Siempre que sea posible, se proporcionan direcciones URL para las referencias.
  • El texto tiene interlineado sencillo; 12 puntos de tamaño de fuente; se utiliza cursiva en lugar de subrayado (excepto en las direcciones URL); y todas las ilustraciones, figuras y tablas se encuentran colocadas en los lugares del texto apropiados, en vez de al final.
  • El texto se adhiere a los requisitos estilísticos y biliográficos resumidos en las Directrices del autor/a, que aparecen en Acerca de la revista.
  • Si se envía a una sección evaluada por pares de la revista, deben seguirse las instrucciones en Asegurar una evaluación anónima.

Author Guidelines

Editorial Policies
Raíces Journal receives original and unpublished works, on socio-cultural thematic of anthropological cut.

Authors who submit their texts for publication will receive a notification from the editors. Then, the articles will be submitted to the Editorial Committee, who will express their acceptance if the characteristics of the texts will be in accordance with the values of the Raíces Journal, its objectives and guidelines.

If the texts will be relevant, they will undergo an evaluation process. Peer reviewers will use the evaluation formats provided by the editors. Once the authors have received feedback and suggestions from the peer review, they will provide the requested improvements and send the final version of their text.

The editors will inform the authors about the publication.

Instructions for publishing texts:
Raíces journal is an open space for all those anthropologists, researchers, professionals, teachers, students, amateurs who want to publish the results of their research, fieldwork, experiences related to anthropology.

It receives collaborations constantly and publishes two numbers a year.

Papers sent to the journal must be original and unpublished in Spanish that have not been submitted simultaneously to other journals for evaluation or publication. When submitting your texts, each author authorizes the publishers to publish their work, if accepted.

If the author later wishes to include this text in another publication, you must request authorization from the Editorial Committee of the journal. Upon receiving authorization, you must mention the number of Raíces in which your work first appeared.

Each issue of Raíces journal is organized in thematic sections. The editors are responsible for placing each approved article in the section that corresponds to the topic.

The types of texts that can be sent are the following: scientific article, essay, review, interview, photographic album of ethnographic cut.

The themes should be related to one of the lines or sub-lines of research approved by the Department of Anthropology of UNAN-Managua.

These research lines can be found in the main menu of the virtual journal "Raíces", by clicking on the LINES / RESEARCH option.

Instructions for posting photos:
Authors who wish to publish their photographs inside Raíces magazine can send the photographic resources that will be selected by the Editorial Committee. If accepted, they will receive information about the publication.

Editorial rules:
The general technical recommendations for publication are:

  • Essays or scientific papers must be original and unpublished.
  • Send essays or scientific articles in Word format compatible with Windows. Presented in size 12, of letter Time New Roman, in space and a half; With approximately 28 lines per page. Maximum length of 15 pages, including bibliography, illustrations, maps and pictures.
  • Essays or articles must be accompanied, on a separate sheet, with a brief profile of the authors (two or three paragraphs maximum), indicating their institutional affiliation, position held, postal address, electronic mail.
  • All pages should be numbered at the top right, including the first page.
  • The minimum structure with which every essay or work must be: introduction, development, conclusion, bibliographical reference.
  • The first page of the article should contain:
    • Full title of the work, no more than 15 words in capital letters.
    • Name of the authors.
    • Abstract, maximum of 250 words, preceded by the word "Summary". These summaries must contain, depending on whether the essay or scientific article is the following: essay: motivation, proposition or idea to be tested, development of proposed points, conclusion; The scientific article must observe the following aspects: a) Purpose: to establish the objectives or motivations to write the article, although these can be deduced from the title or other part of the abstract; B) Methodology: Describe techniques or procedures broadly for their understanding. Description of the sources and the forms of their use; C) Results of the research; D) Implications of results, especially how these relate to research purpose.
    • Keywords, maximum 5 words, in Spanish.
  • Titles and subtitles must be submitted without numbers, letters, or underlined.
  • If you use pictures, figures and photos, they should all be listed and referenced in the text. Do not incorporate them into the text.
  • Photograph originals, drawings, figures, pictures, graphics, etc., must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals (Figure 1, Figure 2).

The authors must indicate in a separate word document: the text of the caption of each image, where also the source and the place where the illustrations should go inside the body of the text, clarifying where they want each image to go, i.e. in which section of the article should appear. Example: Photo 1. INSERT IN ACAPITE 1.2 A community and its economy. Caption: Lowering the load of the last boat.   • The photographs and images must be of excellent quality, in jpg files. They are sent separately. They must have resolutions of 600 DPI for the drawings and 300 DPI for photographs and graphics, preferably printed in laser.
  • Tables should not be drawn with tabs or with space bar. Use the insert table function of Words.
  • Citations should be integrated within the essay or scientific article, in parentheses, referring author, year and page (Pérez: 1998; 18). The bibliography used must be integrated. This should be recorded at the end of the essay, following the alphabetical order of the author. Footnotes will not be used only when primary sources are used.
  • The bibliography that accompanies it should be that cited in the body of the essay or scientific article. It should follow the American Psychological Association (APA) publication style manual.

Additional guidelines depending on the type of article:

  1. Scientific Research Advances: Will have between 3,000 and 5,000 words (including bibliographic references and attachments of any kind). The structure will be: TITLE, SUMMARY (200 words), KEY WORDS, INTRODUCTION, BACKGROUND, METHODOLOGY, RESULTS, CONCLUSIONS, BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES.
  2. States of Art: Will have between 3,000 and 5,000 words (including bibliographical references and attachments of any kind). The structure will be: TITLE, SUMMARY (200 words), KEYWORDS, INTRODUCTION, DEVELOPMENT OF THE THEME, CONCLUSIONS, BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES.
  3. Review articles: Will have between 3,000 and 5,000 words (including bibliographical references and attachments of any kind). The structure will be: TITLE, SUMMARY (200 words), KEY WORDS, INTRODUCTION (includes work objectives). METHODOLOGY (collection of information, materials, bibliographic search, selection criteria, retrieval of information, documentary sources, evaluation of the quality of selected articles, analysis of variability, reliability and validity of articles). ANALYSIS AND INTEGRATION OF THE INFORMATION (results and discussion). CONCLUSIONS (if necessary). BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES.
  4. Scientific essays: They will have a maximum extension of 3,000 words (including bibliographical references and annexes of any type). The structure will be: TITLE, SUMMARY (200 WORDS), KEY WORDS, INTRODUCTION, DEVELOPMENT, CONCLUSIONS, BIBLIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES.
  5. Scientific article: 3000 - 5000 words. TITLE, SUMMARY (250 words), KEY WORDS, INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION OF RESULTS, CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS, ACKNOWLEDGMENTS AND REFERENCES.
