Abstract

Professionalisation in the Attorney General’s Office has been a fundamental axis in the development of its work, constantly seeking to improve the quality of public services and strengthen citizens’ trust in the institution. The commitment to continuous improvement and adaptation to the needs of the Salvadoran state are key aspects highlighted by the employees interviewed. This article presents results on the question: What is the importance of professionalisation in the public sector and what progress has been made in the Attorney General’s Office? This question was investigated through a qualitative methodological design, following an exploratory and comprehensive approach, using the technique of interviewing different employees directly related to the selection process of personnel to join the institution, as well as the person in charge of continuous training for AGO employees. The
reflections shared by the participants during the interviews emphasise the importance of the activities, processes, programmes and projects developed in their areas of competence, thus contributing to the enrichment of the staff and the fulfilment of institutional objectives. In conclusion, professionalisation in the AGO has not only had a positive impact on the development of daily work, but has also contributed to strengthening the institution as a reliable and competent entity.
