Perception of final year students on the methodology and biosafety protocol for COVID-19 at the School of Dentistry, Universidad de El Salvador

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the graduates of the "Doctorate in Dental Surgery" of the Universidad de El Salvador. Variables such as "entrance", "graduation" and "degree" of the student were considered. The study population was the records of 330 students from 2005 to 2013. The analysis included descriptive statistics and the calculation of projections using the statistical program SPSS (version 26.0). Among the results, the average rate of regular students graduating per year was 10.3. This rate showed a constant behavior from 2011 onwards. At the same time, the predominance of the female population and their average graduation age, which is 28 years, is evident. At the same time, it is shown that it takes a student 2 years to graduate (including the year of social service and the degree process). On average, a student completes his or her professional career in 8 years. It is also concluded that the graduation rate is a low indicator in relation to the number of new students, which shows a tendency to increase. These findings point to the need to study other variables that affect student performance. It also emphasizes the change in the modalities of the degree process carried out in the year 2020 and the impact that the teaching-learning process has suffered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
