Abstract

Introduction: Classically, the treatments used for diastema closure are high cost, highly invasive and long lasting. In recent years, the resin injection technique has been used as a cost-effective, fast and significantly less invasive alternative to conventional treatments. Objective: To present a case report on the use of the injected resin technique as an alternative to conventional treatments for diastema closure in a patient with probable psychosocial affectation due to her esthetic condition. Presentation of the case: A 29-year-old female patient, who went to the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad de El Salvador, requesting treatment for the closure of a diastema in the anterosuperior sector that caused her discomfort when smiling. The patient was given the PIDAQ index to determine the psychosocial effects of the esthetic problem and injected resin veneers were used to treat the diastema. Results: The veneers treatment was completed. After two weeks a clinical evaluation was carried out and the PIDAQ index was applied again. The patient's confidence in smiling and satisfaction with the shape of her teeth improved. Conclusion: The treatment for diastema closure increased the patient's smiling confidence. The use of the injected resin technique is an option that allows quick results, at low cost and less invasive to the dental tissues in comparison with conventional alternatives, which is relevant for the preservation of healthy tissue.
