Abstract

Since the creation of the first Higher Education Institution (IES) in El Salvador in 1965, a diversity of options has been generated today for the growing student community, seeking the best option based on academic excellence. This poses a series of problems for HEIs, which lie in the role played by their collaborators to achieve academic excellence. These Higher Education Institutions, since their inception, have proposed their competency-based management models for the recruitment, training, and evaluation of their collaborating personnel, in order to achieve the missions and visions set out on the basis of academic excellence.
This situation is analyzed and evaluated in this article, the meaning of which is whether they currently maintain these competency-based management models and their form of application within the HEI.
Therefore, opinions were obtained regarding the subject, through the administration of questionnaires to administrative personnel and university professors of the HEIs, likewise, representatives of senior management
institutions that monitor the performance of the personnel were interviewed, which allowed to identify perceptions, criticisms and propositions delving into the visions and challenges of the competency-based management model.
